The Expano Regional Promotion Center has obtained the Green Key certificate

In Murska Sobota we are aware of the importance of green and environmentally friendly development, so we are constantly striving to achieve high green goals so that the city, surroundings and region will be sustainable and friendly to nature and man.

The Expano Regional Promotion Center was recently awarded the Green Key Certificate for Tourist Attractions. Let us remind you that the story of the pavilion has been connected with the environment from the very beginning, as it is a wooden building that was rebuilt in Murska Sobota after the World Exhibition in Milan. The recycling of the facility is not the only green thread related to Expano, but it is also closely related to the immediate surroundings, which were revitalized and are now intended for recreation and relaxation of locals and visitors to the new destination. An environmentally friendly and responsible business is thus just a continuation of the green story.

The Green Key Certificate is one of the five programs of the International Foundation for Environmental Education FEE and the leading standard of excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation in the tourism industry. In order to obtain this environmental certificate, it is necessary not only to meet strict criteria and maintain high environmental standards, but also to commit to introducing even more sustainable measures into business every year. The goals of the Green Key program are to increase the use of environmentally friendly and sustainable ways of doing business and consequently reduce resource sharing, raise awareness and change the behavior patterns of all stakeholders in tourism establishments and the tourism industry in general.

When the sign was installed, dr. Aleksander Jevšek, Mayor of Murska Sobota, said that the desire for the Expano Regional Promotion Center, as an attractive tourist destination in the region, to introduce sustainable and environmental practices, was born at the very beginning of the “Doors to Pomurje” project. We have thus introduced the green thread of sustainable development in suburban and rural areas, where there are still many such sustainable ideas, opportunities and challenges. Acquired certificate in Expan is one of the examples of good practice with which we in the Municipality of Murska Sobota encourage co-creators of the tourist offer to introduce environmentally friendly ways of working, so we can proudly talk about green and environment, environment, residents and tourists friendly region. «

Helga Lukač, head of the Regional Promotion Center, added that “obtaining the certificate means recognizing that RPC Expano is on a good path of sustainable operation and is an excellent way to join the Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism, which also includes the Municipality of Murska Saturday as a green destination, which unites all efforts for the sustainable development of tourism in Slovenia. “
